Result

Results are presented in a report with recommendations and follow-up steps. Based on this report, clear and well-founded decisions can be made, costs can be saved and processes optimized.

Project duration

Project duration varies between 2 weeks and 3 months. In order to carry out the project as quickly as possible, it is important that the relevant data is available, complete and clean.

How do annual members and casual riders use Cyclistic bikes differently?

For a Bike-Share I have done an extensive analysis to increase number of regular customers (members). The Bike-Share wanted to know how do annual members and casual riders use bikes differently. With the ultimate goal of designing marketing strategies aimed at converting casual riders into annual members.

Monthly and weekly trends

  • Bike-sharing usage of casual customers is highly seasonal peaking during summer months and dropping during winter months. Bike sharing usage of members is seasonal, but more consistent compared to casuals.
  • Casuals use bike sharing 2 times more often on weekends compared to weekdays. Members use bike sharing consistently throughout the week.

Hourly trend

  • Bike-sharing usage by members on weekdays peaks between 6-9 am and 16-19 pm, this tells that members use bike sharing to commute to work.
  • Majority of bike usage on weekends for both members and casuals is between 12-17 pm.

Top bike-sharing stations

  • More than 50% of bike-sharing takes place near top 20 bike-sharing stations
  • Bike-sharing is more popular in high population density comunities like Austin, South Shore, Near West Side etc.

Suggestion 1: The bike-share should increase number of bike-share stations in high density communities
Suggestion 2: Marketing department should focus on branding bike-share for work commute and leasure purposes
